244 years

Two-hundred and forty-four years ago today was a momentous day. Though many events led to that day and many things happened after to bring the dream of freedom into reality, it was a day that forever changed history.  Those 56 men who would eventually sign the Declaration of Independence, agreed upon this day, risked their 'lives, fortunes and sacred honor' for a cause they felt worthy of fighting for.  July 4th marked a significant shift in the paradigm. No longer would government be in charge of the people, but now the people would be in charge of their own destinies. The government they would eventually frame was unique and exceptional in all of history. The people would have the power.
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the the pursuit of Happiness"
After a long hard fought war we Americans won our freedom. We became a fledgling nation. The framers of our country used great wisdom and guidance from God to form a nation that would endure and become a great nation and leader in the world. Their insight and forethought in doing so is something to be thankful for. "Our cause is noble; it is the cause of mankind." George Washington
"Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers." John Jay
Freedom is the basic right we fought for and won. It and faith are the foundation of what allowed us to build our nation, prosper and be a beacon of hope to so many around the world.
On this Independence Day let's remember the sacrifices those that came before made for us, the freedoms we have and the great nation we live in.
